Came upon your website by accident while surfing about Osan AFB, Korea. I was stationed there Apr,1956 to Apr, 1957 with the 58th Air Base Group.I have some pictures and was in the Flight and Navigation Assimilator [Link Trainer] section. I don't know the first name of the pilot who crashed into the ocean, but his last name was Capt Friezer [ spelling not guaranteed]I spoke with him just before he left on that last flight and had him in the assimaltor for base orientation for landing training for Osan. The other pilot you mentioned with the fire, I don;t remember his name, however, I stood along the runway partway up hill180 and was watching the takeoff of 2jets at dawn when one of them on the right side started to put up a dust storm and crashed into a pile of dirt along side of the runway due to a new landing system installation being installed.I was told that the explosion was the oxygen tanks in the nose exploding first and watched the fire come back over the canopy. I saw the rescue and transport away from the aircraft. I was told also that the accident was caused by a blown tire. Capt Freizer was from around the Rochester or Buffalo, NY area and his crash was in the SUWAN rocket range area as that is where he told me he was headed when he left my dept around noon of that fateful day.

On Christmas morning, I received an e-mail from Margaret, Libby Ford's sister, telling me that early Christmas morning Libby had been promoted to heaven. I immediately began to write my feelings and my condolences to Margaret and all of Libby's family. I wanted to put my thoughts in writing while the impact of losing a dear friend was fresh in my mind. Just as I finished and was going to close and send the e-mail; my computer crashed and everything was lost. When my computer crashes I have to wait about an hour before it will work again. Since Dory and my daughter, Lana, were waiting for me to go with them to the home of friends for Christmas; I had to wait until today to respond. For Margaret, Betty, Chip, and all of Libby's family and friends; losing her on Christmas will always be a sad reminder; yet, we have not really lost Libby; she has just gone ahead of us. Libby put her faith in Jesus Christ -- and, yesterday, she spent her first Christmas in the actual presence of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Can you imagine, being an honored guest who is personally welcomed and greeted by the Lord Himself to His birthday celebration in heaven? And, joining our Lord in welcoming Libby was the love of her life, Bobby. Libby truly enjoyed a marvelous Christmas yesterday. And, for all of us who are also believers; Libby and Bobby will be there with Jesus Christ to welcome each of us to our eternal home in heaven one day. Whenever we lose a loved one; there will, and should, always be a time of mourning. For all of Libby's family and friends, although we know she has been promoted to heaven -- there will always be an empty spot in our hearts, until we join her and Bobby in joyous heavenly worship of and with our Lord. Libby excelled in life; in 1950 meeting and falling in love with her tall, handsome U. S. Naval Academy midshipman and upon his graduation in 1953, becoming his bride. Their love produced two beautiful children, Betty and Chip, while Bobby was beginning his flying career in the U. S. Air Force. After his death, Libby's strength carried her through fifty-two years of waiting to be reunited with Bobby. And, in those ensuing years, the mountain peaks of her life were her grandchildren -- reaching the ultimate this year when granddaughter, Laurie, earned her Ph.D. in Biochemistry & Molecular Biology and this past July moved to Shreveport to begin her career as a forensic scientist. Please join me in lifting Libby's family in prayer this week as they celebrate her home-going, as they celebrate her life, and as they lay her to rest in Arlington National Cemetery alongside her beloved Bobby. Thank you for your prayers. God bless, have a wonderful, blessed day, Bill Gray ___________________________________________ Margaret Withrow wrote on Christmas day: Hi Bill - Libby died about 3 hours (ago). The doctor told her children there was no hope and opened her eye and shined a light and showed she was brain dead. Her children decided to take her of the ventilator and she died shortly thereafter. There will be a funeral on Monday or Tuesday at Joseph Bliley Funeral Home and burial later at Arlington National Cemetery.

On September 11, 2003, God brought me together with the widow of an Air Force pilot, 1/Lt. Bob Ford, who was killed while he and I were stationed at Osan Air Base in Korea. Bob was killed in the crash of an F-86F jet fighter aircraft on March 11, 1957. Through a URL link in an e-mail someone sent me on September 11, 2003, I discovered and visited the Korean War Project web site. I found the Chat Room for my unit, the 311th Fighter-Bomber Squadron, where I found a short message posted by Libby Ford, Bob's widow. She had posted the message on September 11, 1999, after the Korean War Memorial committee refused her request to have Bob's name put on their memorial in Washington DC. She was very upset over their refusal. I called Libby and told her that I had been stationed with Bob in Korea when he was killed. She asked if I would write my memoirs of that year so that she and his family would have some form of closure. I began to write the memoirs -- but, God put on my heart to do a memorial web site. And, through these last few years Libby and I have become good friends. Sometimes on the telephone, but more often in e-mails; she shared with me the joy of her children and grandchildren -- and the great sense of accomplishment she felt this year when her granddaughter, Laurie, earned her Ph.D. in Biochemistry & Molecular Biology and this past July moved to Shreveport to begin her career as a forensic scientist. My purpose in telling you all of this is that I want us all to pray that God will restore Libby's health and give her more time with her family; more time to enjoy watching her grandchildren's accomplishments in life -- all a tribute to Bob and Libby Ford. We very selfishly want Libby to be with us longer. However, if it is God's will that she go to be with her Lord -- we know that she will also be with Bobby once again. We am reminded of the apostle Paul's confession in Philippians 1:23-24, when he says to the people in the church of Philippi, "But I am hard-pressed from both directions, having the desire to depart and be with Christ, for that is very much better; yet to remain on in the flesh is more necessary for your sake." I am sure that is Libby's feelings also: To go home to be with her Lord and with Bobby -- yet, a desire to remain here with her precious family. God knows which is best -- so, we must leave Libby in His loving hands. But, I still ask everyone to pray that it be His will that Libby will stay with us for a long time. Please keep Libby and all her family in your prayers during this time. If you have time, visit the Bob Ford Memorial web site. There you will find photos of Bobby and Libby when they met at the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis in 1950, their courtship, and their wedding in 1953. You will find a page which which shows Bobby at Annapolis; then as he transferred to the Air Force and got his wings; of his time in Korea and his death; and his burial at Arlington National Cemetery. To me, Bob Ford was a hero -- and Libby Ford his princess. I pray that you enjoy their web site. Thank you and God bless, Bill Gray _________________________________________________________________ Hi Bill - I'm Margaret Withrow, Libby's sister. Just wanted to let you know that Libby is in Va. Beach General Hospital in Va. Beach, Va. and not expected to make it. Colon problems and infection in colon and liver, heart attack and full of fluid. She is in emergency surgery now and I'm waiting to hear. I am keeping everyone posted by writing on her profile on Facebook. I just wanted to thank you again for EVERYTHING you did for her. I don't think you will ever know how much it meant to her. You gave her closure with Bobby's death and I truly appreciate it too. You are a saint. We could certainly use your prayers now. Many thanks and God bless you.

I found Mr Fords site purely by accident, how pleasantly surprised I was when I discovered his birth date (22nd Oct) was the same as my own. I fear I am not a religeous person but I totally respect anyone who is. However I do believe things happen for a reason (good or bad) so maybe I was meant to find this site. You must be very proud of Mr Ford and my thoughts are with you. Bless you. Bob Lawson

Bob and I chose Air Force careers after graduating from the Naval Academy. We went to Korea to fly F-86s at the same time, with many of our West Point contemporaries, but were assigned to different squadrons. I remember the sad day when Bob crashed. My recall is that he lost a drop tank while on a high speed run at low altitude, causing the crash, just weeks shy of rotating back to the U.S. Godspeed Bob.
